The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly interviewing Texas Tech outside linebackers coach C.J. Ah You for the same role with the team, per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

Per Pelissero, Ah You also interviewed with the Dallas Cowboys on Friday. His interview with the Steelers will take place on Tuesday.

Texas Tech outside linebackers coach C.J. Ah You is set to interview Tuesday for the OLB job with the Steelers, per source.

A former NFL defensive end, Ah You also interviewed Friday with the Cowboys.

Ah You played for the St. Louis Rams from 2007-2011 after a college career at BYU and Oklahoma. He got into coaching in 2015 at Oklahoma, serving as a special teams quality control coach. Other stops for Ah You include Vanderbilt, where he was a defensive line coach from 2016-2018, the XFL’s New York Guardians and USC. Ah You also served as Texas Tech’s interim defensive coordinator in 2024.

If hired, Ah You would replace Denzel Martin, who also interviewed with the Cowboys. His hiring would also put LB Jacob Rodriguez firmly in the spotlight as a potential Steelers target in the middle rounds, though Rodriguez projects as an off-ball linebacker in the NFL. In addition to Rodriguez, Ah You worked with David Bailey, a projected top-five pick, this past season, and Romello Height, one of the best EDGE players in this year’s draft class. The Texas Tech defense also included DL Lee Hunter, another potential first-round pick.

Ah You has never played or coached under Mike McCarthy, but it’s an intriguing interview given his success at the college ranks and former experience. He’s the first reported interview for the team’s outside linebacker coach opening. Ah You goes in depth explaining a pass-rush drill with tape examples in a clip below.

Ah You played in 33 games with three starts during his NFL career. He recorded 41 tackles and six sacks, with four of those sacks coming in the 2010 season. An interesting connection to Pittsburgh’s current staff is that Ah You coached Tyree Wilson in college, and Wilson became a first-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, whose defensive coordinator was current Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

The Steelers have an impressive crop of outside linebackers in T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer, and Ah You would look to maximize that talent. He could bring a different perspective as a former NFL player, as while Martin played in college, he didn’t in the NFL. Martin has done a good job with the room, but it seems as if he won’t be retained and the hope would be that Ah You can take it to another level.
