Chicago Bears rookie left tackle Ozzy Trapilo was named a “secret superstar” by Pro Football Focus for his 2025 season performance.Trapilo became the starting left tackle in Week 12 following injuries to other players and quickly became a reliable contributor. He suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during a wild-card game against the Green Bay Packers. The significant injury leaves Trapilo’s future uncertain and creates a need for a short-term solution at the position for the Bears.
The Chicago Bears saw impressive contributions from their rookie class, led by tight end Colston Loveland, wide receiver Luther Burden III and running back Kyle Monangai. But left tackle Ozzy Trapilo was an underrated contributor during his rookie season.
The Bears drafted Trapilo in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he got off to a bit of a slow start after losing out to Braxton Jones and Theo Benedet in the left tackle competition. But following injuries to Jones and Benedet, Trapilo got his opportunity in Week 12 and never looked back.
Pro Football Focus dubbed Trapilo a “secret superstar” for the Bears during the 2025 season, where he quickly stepped into a starting role, elevated the offensive line’s play and was one of the most underrated players on Chicago.
“Trapilo stepped into the Bears’ starting left tackle role in Week 12 and quickly became one of the offense’s most reliable contributors,” wrote Zach Tantillo. “From that point on, he ranked as Chicago’s sixth-highest-graded offensive player and graded out as a top-10 offensive rookie. His season ended in the wild-card round against the Packers when he suffered a torn patellar tendon in the final two minutes, but he was able to hop off the field, preserving the Bears’ final timeout.”
Trapilo looked to be the potential long-term answer at left tackle, and that could still very well be true. But he suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during a wild-card win over the Green Bay Packers that leaves his future in question. The full extent of Trapilo’s injury is unknown, but best-case scenario is a 6-12 month recovery window, which means Chicago will need to find a short-term solution at left tackle in the meantime.
