The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to interview New Orleans Saints tight ends coach Chase Haslett for the tight ends coach and passing game coordinator title with the team, according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports.
This only strengthens the ties for the Steelers to Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien, who was the offensive coordinator for the American team at the Senior Bowl. Tolzien coached under Mike McCarthy in Dallas.
Meanwhile, so did Haslett, who followed Tolzien and Kellen Moore from Dallas to New Orleans. A quarterback at IUP, Haslett has some connections to Pittsburgh in that regard.
He transferred to IUP from Illinois. The son of longtime NFL coach Jim Haslett, Chase has been around football for most of his life. He is just 33 years old but has risen up the coaching ranks quickly.
Jim Haslett hired McCarthy to be his offensive coordinator in New Orleans back in 2000. Chase Haslett joined the Saints this past season after being with the Cowboys for the last five seasons.
He came aboard as a quality control coach and by 2024, became a passing game specialist for the Cowboys. The Steelers, if he was hired, would make him the first offensive passing game coordinator in team history.
Haslett started his coaching career in the collegiate ranks as a graduate assistant as Nebraska before climbing the totem pole and becoming the tight ends coach at Mercer in 2019.
