The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired Steve Scarnecchia to be the team’s new Chief of Staff under head coach Mike McCarthy, the team announced.
Scarnecchia is the son of legendary NFL offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia, who helped the Patriots offensive line develop into a feared unit during the height of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick years.
During his time in Atlanta, Scarnecchia was in charge of coordinator team events, practice schedules, and many other roles to help keep the team organized.
“Scarnecchia is responsible for the coordination of the team’s daily meetings and practice schedules and overall football activities calendar,” his Atlanta Falcons biography read.
Throughout his time with the Falcons, Scarnecchia helped with the budget for football operations as well as providing other administrative assistance to the coaching staff.
Over his time, Scarnecchia has spent time with the New York Jets and two different stints with the Falcons. He was fired by the Denver Broncos in 2010 after he was found to be filming six minutes of the 49ers’ walk-through.
Scarnecchia worked with his father and the Patriots during the SpyGate scandal, too. He was part of the video department during that time, and the NFL labeled him a ‘repeat offender’ throughout that process.
Before coming back to the NFL, Scarnecchia worked at Syracuse as their video coordinator. He brings nearly two decades of experience to the role with the Steelers.
