After much initial turmoil following the announcement of new head coach, Mike McCarthy, many Pittsburgh Steelers fans are finally starting to come around. McCarthy has quickly started putting together his new coaching staff in the Steel City, and Steeler Nation is opening up. Key hires such as Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham, Offensive Line Coach James Campen, and Defensive Pass Game Coordinator / Defensive Backs Coach Jason Simmons (just to name a few) have reinvigorated the fan base, and McCarthy is not done.

Fans of the Black and Gold have long awaited for the organization to extend its coaching staff beyond the traditional roles. Whether it’s more assistants, entirely new positions, or even emphasizing the analytical part of the game, this has been an area the franchise has seemingly been a bit behind in compared to other teams across the league. On Monday, it was announced that McCarthy and the Steelers are looking to bring in a coaching position that hasn’t been recognized in recent years: a passing game coordinator.
Sources: The #Steelers have requested and completed an interview with #Saints TEs coach Chase Haslett for the passing game coordinator/TEs coach role on Mike McCarthy’s staff.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz was first to report that Pittsburgh has requested and completed an interview with New Orleans Saints Tight Ends Coach Chase Haslett. Haslett would come to Pittsburgh as the new tight ends coach, as well as new passing game coordinator. This would be a brand new role in Pittsburgh, and Haslett’s prior experience with McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys as quality control definitely gives him a leg up.

Steelers Still Have More Coaching Positions To Fill
As of Monday this week, the Steelers still need an outside linebackers coach, a defensive line coach, and of course, an offensive coordinator (among other possible positions). Since McCarthy already announced that he will be officially calling plays, the position of OC hasn’t had as much weight as it once had in Pittsburgh in years past. Of course, the new OC will still help with game-planning, as well as the possible new passing game coordinator, but McCarthy himself will have the most say in how the offense is run.

More announcements are sure to pop up in the coming days as far as who else will be on the Steelers’ new coaching staff.
