The San Francisco 49ers announced Monday that team president Al Guido has been promoted to chief executive officer, a move that formalizes his expanding role within the organization as it prepares to host another Super Bowl this week.
Owner Jed York, who previously held the CEO title himself, will remain closely involved in team operations. Guido, along with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, will continue to report directly to York.

York praised Guido’s long standing impact on the franchise, pointing to more than a decade of leadership and steady growth both on and off the field.
“Al has played a central role in shaping who we are as an organization,” York said in a statement. “His leadership, vision and ability to bring people together have helped position the 49ers for sustained success. This move reflects both his contributions and our confidence in where we’re headed.”
Guido was named team president in 2016 after serving as the 49ers’ chief operating officer from 2014 to 2016. During his tenure, the organization has undergone significant transformation, including the continued development of Levi’s Stadium as one of the premier venues in global sports and entertainment.
Levi’s Stadium hosted the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in January 2019 and is set to make history in 2026 by becoming the first venue to host both a Super Bowl and FIFA World Cup matches in the same year.

Guido emphasized continuity and collaboration following the announcement, crediting the York family and the organization’s staff for the franchise’s growth.
“This organization has always been about teamwork,” Guido said. “I’m grateful for the trust the York family has placed in me and proud of the people I get to work with every day. Our focus remains the same…competing at the highest level and setting a standard of excellence across everything we do.”
In addition to his role with the 49ers, Guido serves as chairman and CEO of Elevate, a consulting firm that partners with professional sports teams, leagues and other organizations to drive strategic growth and operational performance.
The promotion comes at a pivotal time for the franchise, as the 49ers balance on field championship aspirations with a growing presence on the global sports stage.
