Entering the offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs know that an overhaul of sorts is what is needed for the roster.

With both sides of the ball needing some reinforcements, exactly where the franchise should start is a little tricky.

Pass rush is an obvious one, so too is running back, with the Chiefs well below league average in that department in 2025.

For NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, one roster move the Chiefs have to make this offseason is to fix their run game.

“Both Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco are slated for free agency, leaving K.C. with Brashard Smith as the lone back on the roster,” Patra wrote. “Adding a dynamic weapon to the backfield who can generate consistent chunk plays, including in the passing game, would be a boon with Patrick Mahomes coming off a knee injury.”

How can Chiefs fix run game?

Well, there are two avenues. Free agency and the draft.

We have seen several free agents, such as Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker, mentioned as backs who would thrive behind Patrick Mahomes. Plus, the Chiefs tried to trade for Hall last season but failed.

The other is the draft, and in several mocks, Notre Dame back Jeremiyah Love has seen his name pop up as a potential option.

In truth, either could work, but one thing the Chiefs can’t do is run it back with Pacheco and Hunt in 2026.

And I don’t think they will.
