Eden Prairie native Todd Downing has worked in the NFL for over two decades and Sunday will be his first time coaching in the Super Bowl. He’s the New England Patriots wide receivers coach.
Downing joined the Patriots last offseason. He came to New England after two seasons with the New York Jets as passing game coordinator, adding the title of quarterbacks coach in 2024. He spent four seasons in Tennessee as tight ends coach (2019-20) and offensive coordinator (2021-22) under Mike Vrabel.
Once Vrabel got the Patriots job last offseason, he reached out to Downing and the rest is history.
Our Darren ‘Doogie’ Wolfson caught up with Downing, via Zoom, to hear all about the excitement of finally getting to coach in the Super Bowl. Plus, we had to hear what it’s like coaching Patriots star Stefon Diggs, the former Viking.

He’s also worked as offensive coordinator for the Raiders, and held different roles with the Bills, Rams, Lions, and Vikings.
His most recent coaching job with the Vikings came in 2018 as tight ends coach under Mike Zimmer.
