A mother and son duo from Marysville made the trip to San Francisco to participate in the activities and celebrations ahead of Sunday’s game.
SAN FRANCISCO — In a sea of multi-colored NFL jerseys representing several different teams on the streets of San Francisco, more Seahawks threads are starting to stick out as fans make their way to the Bay Area for Super Bowl LX.
At the urging of her husband, Jennifer Gilbert and her 15-year-old son Damon made the trip from Marysville.
“He told us that we’re the football nerds and we needed to go have a bonding experience and we’d never forget it. So he pushed us to come,” said Jennifer Gilbert.Â
“We jump up and down and scream in our living room all the time [but] we don’t really get to go to many games, or experience things like that. Just to be able to be here and do this together is awesome. We’re so excited for the Seahawks, they got this!”
The two won’t be attending Sunday’s game, but spent Tuesday afternoon at the Super Bowl Experience, the interactive event that attracts thousands of fans each Super Bowl.
“It’s incredible. I love every moment of it, spending time with my mother. It’s my first NFL experience, so this is a great moment for me,” said Damon Gilbert. “This year has been amazing for the Seahawks and Seattle sports in general. This week is incredible for us. We’ve never done anything like this. For it to the Super Bowl, it means a lot.”
A home game for some Seahawks fans
Throughout the week a handful of Seahawks fans from the Bay Area have attended Super Bowl activities, including the fan experience in San Francisco and Opening Night in San Jose.Â
“Well, we tried to figure out how to get tickets to the Super Bowl, but obviously that’s not happening,” said Brenda Ferrari, a Bellingham local who now lives in the Bay Area.
Ferrari and her friend Pamela Shimer, a former Seattle resident who also now lives in northern California, wore white Seahawks jerseys when when they attended the Super Bowl Experience.
A bold move, given their friends are fans of the rival San Francisco 49ers.
“Our 49ers fans are rooting for the Seahawks,” said Shimer, before being interrupted by Ferrari.
“That’s not true with my 49ers fans! But they will understand the Seahawks are the best team of all time.”
The Seattle Seahawks face the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game will kick off on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 3:30 p.m. Pacific time.Â
