The Indianapolis Colts will retain offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter for the 2026 NFL season.
Cooter had interviewed for the New York Giants‘ offensive coordinator opening, but that position is reportedly going to Matt Nagy.

The Eagles had also interviewed Cooter for their offensive coordinator vacancy, but that was filled by Sean Mannion.
So Cooter will remain with the Colts, operating under head coach Shane Steichen.
Although Cooter already holds the title of offensive coordinator with the Colts, one likely difference between that role and the Eagles’ and Giants’ jobs is that those would come with play-calling duties, providing Cooter with a step up in responsibility.
Steichen still had to give Cooter permission to interview for those jobs since going from offensive coordinator to offensive coordinator — even if there are play-calling duties — is viewed by the NFL as a lateral move.

This season, the Colts’ offense finished eighth in points per game scored and eighth in yards per play.
Through the first half of the season, the Colts had one of the most productive offenses in football, with a scheme that was hard to defend.
Colts’ defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo drew head coaching interest this offseason, interviewing with the Titans and Giants. But like Cooter, he will be back in Indianapolis for the 2026 season as well.
