Mike LaFleur was introduced as the Arizona Cardinals‘ new head coach on Tuesday, and one question was answered fairly quickly. He will be the offensive playcaller for the team.
While he was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams for the last three seasons, he did not call plays. He did for two seasons before that as offensive coordinator of the New York Jets.
“I look forward to it,” he said in his introductory press conference. “I missed it.”
He will do so with new responsibilities as head coach. However, he did get to watch Sean McVay call plays while running everything as well. He has learned a lot observing McVay calling plays.
Does he have a particular philosophy with his offensive play calls?

“The worst playcall is a late playcall,” he said. “Get the play call into your quarterback. Get the play call in to the offense so they can go operate.”
