He’s the guy that just about every pundit is mocking to the New York Jets with the second overall pick.

Ohio State’s Arvell Reese.

What position should he be listed as, though?

Perhaps “defensive weapon”?

Reese played off-ball linebacker for the Buckeyes, but he got plenty of opportunities to rush the passer, albeit not many as a true edge rusher.

It’s Reese’s pass-rush upside, though, that has scouts salivating over his NFL potential. His ceiling as an edge rusher is what could get him drafted second overall; you would not take an off-ball linebacker with the second pick in 2026.

Although Reese’s pass-rush ceiling is the main appeal of his scouting report, his potential as an all-around defensive weapon cannot be discounted. He projects as the type of game-changing chess piece that can open up a wealth of options for his defensive coordinator, while creating nightmares for the opposing offensive coordinator and quarterback.

The question on everyone’s minds, though, is whether Reese should be the Jets’ pick at No. 2, especially over a talented crop of competitors, including his teammate, wide receiver Carnell Tate, whose film we have already broken down. Reese is also competing against elite EDGE prospects like Miami’s Rueben Bain Jr. and Texas Tech’s David Bailey.

It really comes down to one question: Can the Jets trust that Reese will become an elite NFL pass rusher despite his lack of reps at the college level?

We’re here to answer that question through a deep dive into his All-22 film.

On the latest episode of Blewett’s Blitz, we break down Reese’s 2025 performances against Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Indiana, and Miami.

Below is the full Arvell Reese scouting report (strengths and weaknesses) and film review.
