Former Broncos’ Super Bowl hero and Hall of Fame running back attended the Super Bowl proceedings to raise awareness on tardive dyskinesia.

SAN FRANCISCO — Broncos’ Ring of Famer Terrell Davis is here for Super Bowl LX week but his former team is not.

“I know,’’ said Davis, perhaps the No. 1 reason, with John Elway being No. 2, why the Broncos won their first two Super Bowls in 1997-98. “Believe me I had this thing all planned out. I had them already here in Santa Clara. And then the game unfolded.”

The Broncos lost to the New England Patriots, 10-7 in the AFC Championship Game two weeks ago despite hosting the contest at Empower Field at Mile High. So why, T.D., did the Broncos fall short?

“It was going to be tough without Bo,’’ Davis said, referring to Broncos’ starting quarterback Bo Nix, who was out following surgery to repair a broken ankle. “This team all year long, we’ve been a one-possession sort of game, everything’s been tight. And when you’re playing in an AFC Championship Game really against anybody, I mean you’d like to have your starting quarterback.

“At least having a guy who played more recently than two years ago. That was a tough ask. Because you’re adjusting a lot, you’re trying to see how the game is unfolding, and I think in Sean’s mind there was a certain number in his head that he had to hit.

“And so that’s probably why he went for it on fourth down versus kicking a field goal. We always say the decision is always wrong when it doesn’t work out. If they had converted and it won the game, then it’s a brilliant call going for it. It’s always like that. I always appreciated a coach who put it in the hands of the players. If I was on that sideline I would have loved it had Mike (Shanahan, his former coach) had gone for it”

Broncos’ backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham, playing for the first time in more than two years, had a great early series, completing a 52-yard pass to Marvin Mims and 6-yard touchdown to Courtland Sutton. That put the Broncos up 7-0 and Stidham led another drive deep into Patriots territory, but coach Sean Payton bypassed the field goal for a 10-0 lead and went for it on fourth-and-1, which failed. The Broncos never scored again.

Davis was walking through the Super Bowl LX Media Center inside the Moscone Convention Center this week using his Hall of Fame platform to raise awareness for Tardive Dyskinesia. T.D for short.

The neurological disorder brings involuntary convulsions with one’s hands, feet and face, side affects from taking mental-health medicine. Davis said if people are experiencing some of these symptoms, they should go to: TheOtherTD.com for more information and solutions.

Life is otherwise good for T.D., although not because he was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017, 11 years after he was eligible.

“I don’t know if it’s changed,’’ Davis said. “For me, personally, the biggest thing has been I’m not worried about it. I’m not having anxiety about, ‘Am I going in? Am I not going in?’ It closed the chapter of that book.

“But as far as day-to-day life? No. My kids don’t care if I have a (Gold) jacket. My wife don’t care if I  have a jacket. Life is still the same. It’s all good.”
