After a year leading Southeast Missouri’s offense at the Football Championship Subdivision level, John Holt is set to make the leap back to Football Bowls Subdivision coaching.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Holt has departed his post as Southeast Missouri’s offensive coordinator. He’s expected to accept the tight ends coach’s position on Jeff Monken’s Army Black Knights staff, sources told FootballScoop.

Also, sources tell FootballScoop, Army is poised to make an addition on the defensive side of the ball, as well.

Monken is adding Munir Prince to the defensive side of the ball. Per sources, Prince is set to coach cornerbacks in the Army program. He’s arriving at West Point from his previous post as the cornerbacks coach at Eastern Michigan, where Prince had spent the previous four seasons.

He also owns experience coaching in the Southeastern Conference from a stint at the University of Missouri; Prince’s other stops include Missouri State, Pittsburg State and his alma mater, Missouri, where Prince also was a multi-year letterwinner. He’s coached on both sides of the line of scrimmage in a career nearing two decades of collegiate coaching.

For Holt, it’s set to be another stop in a career that spans the high school ranks and multiple levels of college football for Holt.

A former head coach at Lakewood High School where he led the program to 10 wins during the 2024 season, Holt also has coached previously at the FBS level at Georgia State. In Atlanta, Holt served as the Panthers’ offensive line coach and helped Georgia State lead its conference — the Sun Belt — in rushing offense during the 2023 season.

Additional stops for Holt include FCS program Western Carolina and FBS resident Appalachian State, which is Holt’s alma mater.

He was a standout-player for the Mountaineers in the early 2000s.

The two coaches, sources said, are scheduled to begin their turns with Monken’s Army Black Knights next week.

They will arrive at an Army program that has experienced consistent, national success under Monken, a career 127-game winner as an NCAA head coach whose next win at Army will be his 90th as leader of the Black Knights.

Army just polished off its 2025 campaign in December with a win in the Fenway Bowl in Boston.

The Black Knights are scheduled to open their 2026 at home Sept. 5 against Bryant University. Army has scheduled league games in American Conference play at home against East Carolina, Florida Atlantic (FAU), USF and Tulane; it goes on the road to face American foes Memphis, Rice, Temple and Tulsa.

The American Conference is scheduled to reveal its members’ conference schedules this month.Â
