Year after year, the Buffalo Bills enter the postseason as one of the odds-on favorites to win the Super Bowl, only to invent a new way to come up short in their championship conquest.
From the inexcusable 13-second game-tying drive allowed to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, to the controversial overtime interception this season against the Denver Broncos, the franchise is continuously crushed by a unique circumstance.
With each passing failure, the question regarding whether or not the Bills can actually take advantage of superstar quarterback Josh Allen’s prime and lift the Lombardi becomes louder. For Buffalo to not waste their contention window, the team must look to change things up and make a significant upgrade to its roster.

Bears Send DJ Moore to the Bills in Offseason Trade Proposal
A trade for a versatile receiver from the Chicago Bears could be the missing piece to a Super Bowl run for Buffalo.
Acquiring a Much-Needed Leader
The Bills may not have many weak points, but receiver is surely one of the few.
The team’s current options under contract for the 2026 season include Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Josh Palmer, and Curtis Samuel. Shakir was the only wideout to eclipse 450 receiving yards in 2025, leading all offensive players with 719.
While he’s a reliable option, Shakir has a clear role in the slot, limiting his all-around upside. Coleman, the team’s second-round pick in 2024, looked prime for a sophomore-year breakout early in the season before being benched midway through the campaign. To round the group off, the veteran duo of Palmer and Samuel are unfortunately prone to injuries.
Buffalo has lacked a true No. 1 receiver since it traded away Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in 2024. It’s truly a testament to Allen’s greatness that he’s performed at an MVP-level over the last two seasons with such an underwhelming supporting cast.
Out With the Old, In With the New
The Chicago Bears were one of the pleasant surprises of the 2025 season.
After finishing their 2024 campaign at 5-12, the Bears took a massive leap under first-year head coach Ben Johnson and won the NFC North with an 11-6 record. Chicago upended its rival, the Green Bay Packers, in the Wild Card Round, and was a flipped overtime result against the Los Angeles Rams away from an NFC Championship Game appearance.
One of the main contributors to the Bears’ turnaround over the last few years has been wide receiver DJ Moore. Since coming over from the Carolina Panthers in a monumental 2023 trade, Moore has led Chicago’s wideout room in receiving yards in each of his three seasons with the team.
However, the Bears have recently accumulated a plethora of young talent that has pushed Moore into less demanding of a role. Over the last two drafts, Chicago has selected the likes of Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, and Luther Burden III.
Suddenly with “too many cooks in the kitchen”, Moore recorded his career-low in both receptions and receiving yards in 2025. Set to make $82.6 million through 2029, the Bears may be better off moving the 28-year-old and focusing on the development of their rising stars.
The Trade
Bills receive: DJ Moore
Bears receive: Bills’ third-round pick (No. 91)
In this proposed deal, the Bears acquire the rights to the Bills’ third-round pick in exchange for Moore’s services. The trade allows Chicago to remove Moore’s extensive deal off its books and use the additional money to bring in some imperative defensive additions.
In order to take on Moore’s contract, Buffalo parts ways with several of its aging skill position players like the aforementioned Samuel and tight end Dawson Knox. Moore reclaims his rightful position as an alpha wideout in the NFL, perfectly filling Buffalo’s need of a receiver that can consistently produce in any situation when called upon.
DJ Moore Career Stats
Since being drafted in 2018, Moore has racked up 608 receptions for 8,213 yards and 41 receiving touchdowns. He has been utilized as a gadget-player throughout his career, having also taken 72 carries for 510 yards across his eight seasons.
