The Miami Dolphins signed tight end Zack Kuntz to a futures contract, the team announced Friday.
Kuntz, 26, was a seventh-round draft pick of the New York Jets in 2023. He has appeared in two career regular-season games, one each in 2023 and 2024. He has played three career offensive snaps and six on special teams, without recording any statistics.
A practice squad player each of those seasons who was elevated to the active roster for those games played, Kuntz did not make the Jets’ roster or practice squad last season and was waived as roster cuts were made.
Kuntz started his college career at Penn State and then transferred to Old Dominion, where he had 73 catches for 692 yards and five touchdowns in his first season there. A dislocated knee cap cut his 2022 campaign short with 12 receptions for 144 yards and two touchdowns in five games before he entered the ensuing year’s draft.
New Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has now signed four players to futures contracts since taking over: Kuntz, wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., linebacker Seth Coleman and safety Omar Brown.
Before Sullivan’s signings, Miami had made 10 other pickups on futures contracts, which allow players to join a team in the offseason with a chance to compete for a roster spot come time for the offseason workouts, organized team activities, minicamp and eventually training camp ahead of the 2026 season. The previous signings were made while interim GM Champ Kelly was in charge following the Oct. 31 firing of former GM Chris Grier.
