Terrell Owens hasn’t played for the Cowboys in nearly 20 years, but he can still cause drama in Dallas.
The former Cowboy and Hall of Fame wide receiver is in San Francisco for the Super Bowl this week and stirred the pot with a few hot takes when he sat down with The California Post.
Skipping over Owens’ notion that quarterback Tom Brady shouldn’t be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, Owens also had some thoughts on the Cowboys’ roster, and what position would he know better than the wide receivers room?
Owens spent three years in Dallas and averaged nearly 1,200 yards per season and is certainly qualified to discuss the merits of current Cowboys WRs CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, but his thoughts on the duo seem to go against the norm.

“Both of them are great receivers,” T.O. told The Post. “But, in my estimation, [Pickens’] catching ability, his catch radius, his ability to go up and make plays when there aren’t plays — he offers a lot more down the field when it comes to being a deep threat and being a playmaker.”
When asked to pick between the two receivers, Owens said Pickens was the easy choice.
In Owens’ defense, it’s not totally out there when you get into the technicals of it. There are a number of people around pro football (DMN columnist Kevin Sherrington has gone on the record as one of them) who believe Pickens to be the more talented wide receiver between the two. But you can’t argue with the results: Pickens has only posted two career 1,000-yard receiving seasons, while the more consistent Lamb has done it in every year but his rookie season.
The Cowboys may or may not have to choose between the two for next season, as Pickens is a pending free agent and there are questions as to whether Dallas can afford two top-paid wide receivers. The Cowboys and Jerry Jones have emphasized how much of a priority re-signing Pickens is this offseason.
It looks like bringing Pickens back is even more of a must for T.O.
