The New York Giants have completely revamped their coaching staff this offseason, and experts are wondering how the changes will affect their core of young stars.

The offense under new head coach John Harbaugh has a new offensive coordinator (Matt Nagy) and a high-level assistant in Greg Roman. They have yet to name a quarterbacks coach for Jaxson Dart as he enters his second season.

Marcus Spears, a former NFL defensive lineman turned studio analyst for ESPN, doesn’t believe Nagy is the right match for Dart given his history with players such as Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields, two quarterbacks Nagy tutored during his time as head coach of the Chicago Bears.

“Maybe something’s changed,” said Spears. “I don’t know.”

Dart flourished under the trio of Brian Daboll, Mike Kafka, and Shea Tierne last year. They’re all gone. Spears has a point. Trubisky didn’t play up to his draft pedigree (selected No. 2 overall in 2017), and neither did Fields (No. 11 in 2021). That could be on Nagy.

To be fair, neither player has the full skill set that Dart possesses. Nagy did, however, revive Alex Smith’s career in Kansas City and coached Patrick Mahomes to stardom as well.

If the Giants can find a capable quarterbacks coach who suits Dart, all of this concern about Nagy should subside.
