Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders turned 24 on Saturday, February 7.
The Cleveland Browns marked Shedeur Sanders’ 24th birthday with a social media post Saturday, February 7 — a routine gesture that quickly sparked anything but a routine response.
“About time for some birthday wishes for Shedeur Sanders!” the team wrote.
NFL teams regularly acknowledge player birthdays, but Sanders remains a lightning rod in Cleveland. The post drew hundreds of comments, underscoring just how polarizing the young quarterback has become. Some fans leaned into the moment with effusive praise.
“Shedeur Sanders, where do I begin — thank you for making your birthday a moment of inspiration for so many of us,” one fan wrote. “Your confidence, work ethic, and leadership light up the field and remind us what belief and preparation can do. Watching you chase greatness with humility and heart is a gift.”
Others used the occasion to air lingering frustration with the organization’s handling of Sanders’ future.
“Y’all use him up for your marketing because he’s popular, but won’t commit to him as QB1 going into training camp,” another fan commented. “That’s kinda foul.”
Shedeur’s famous father, Deion Sanders, also had a birthday message he shared on social media.
“Happy Birthday to my FAVORITE CHILD Shedeur Sanders. CONFIDENCE IS OUR NATURAL ODOR,” Deion Sanders said. “May your days be greater than the previous day. Love u son. We’ve been winning on and off the field, it’s only a matter of time.”
Shedeur Sanders Faces Uncertain Future With Browns
Sanders started the final seven games during his rookie season with the Browns. He went 3-4 in those games, passing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
The Browns will have Todd Monken at the helm as their new head coach. Monken did not commit to Sanders, or any other quarterback, as he was being introduced.
“I think like any position on the team, that’s still to be determined,” Monken said. “Am I excited about Shedeur? Am I excited about all the quarterbacks in the room? Am I excited to coach this football team? Absolutely. I can’t wait for them to get back and for us to get started.”
Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel are also under contract for next season.
Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Not Lacking Confidence
Sanders had a turbulent rookie season that began with his stunning draft drop. Many projected Sanders as an early first-round pick, but he fell to pick No. 144 in the fifth round.
Despite his roller coaster campaign, Sanders came away confident that he can be a long-term option in Cleveland.
“You can see it. It’s kind of like mastering how to get to that place all the time,” Sanders told Kay Adams. “You have flashes. That’s the most thing I appreciate about this year is that I proved to myself, I’m able to dominate the league. But I’m able to take completions, I’m able to put all of that together, and definitely in games, we have flashes, but I know I’m capable of doing that. Now, to do it on a consistent basis, that’s what the goal is. But for me in this past season, that’s what proved to myself. No matter what happened, no matter anything that transpired, you are able to go out there and compete.”
The Browns are expected to explore the draft, free agency and trades to add to their quarterback room. Cleveland holds the No. 6 overall pick and selection No. 24 (from Jacksonville).
