Joe Flacco’s cavalier attitude about football-related brain injury is disturbing (“Joe Flacco on NFL physicality, penalties: ‘We signed up to get concussions,’” Feb. 5).
I doubt Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers center Mike Webster signed up to die nearly homeless at age 50. Hall of Fame San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau, who committed suicide at age 43, or Chicago Bears defensive back Dave Duerson, who took his own life at age 50, probably didn’t either. All were found posthumously to have Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) connected with repeated blows to the head on the football field.
Thanks for the Super Bowl, Joe, but please keep your views on football safety to yourself. They’re beyond old-school; they’re dangerously ignorant.
