The Bills have hired former Illinois Fighting Illini defensive coordinator Terrance Jamison to join Joe Brady’s coaching staff

The Buffalo Bills have spent the early portion of the offseason proving that they aren’t content with their lack of playoff success in recent years. The team’s most recent defeat, a crushing overtime loss at the hands of the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs, cost head coach Sean McDermott his job, with offensive coordinator Joe Brady being promoted to take over for him.

Since landing the job, Brady has moved quickly to build out his coaching staff, and he is assembling an All-Star cast from the looks of it. As he takes on his first head coach gig, Brady is making sure he has all of his bases covered, and he recently turned to the world of college football to add former Illinois Fighting Illini co-defensive coordinator Terrance Jamison to his staff.

Bills Hire Terrance Jamison to Be New Defensive Line Coach

Brady’s familiarity with Josh Allen and the offensive side of the ball helped him land the Bills’ head coach gig, and now, he will be tasked with doing what McDermott couldn’t: lead Buffalo to a Super Bowl victory. The first big order of business involves building a coaching staff, and Brady has hit the ground running in that department.

The first big hires for Brady were his offensive and defensive coordinators. He landed a pair of big-name candidates, with Pete Carmichael Jr. working on the offensive side of the ball and Jim Leonhard working on the defensive side of the ball. Since then, Brady has been relentlessly recruiting up-and-coming coaches to join his staff as assistants.

The latest guy to latch on with Brady is Jamison, who spent the past five seasons working with Illinois. While these guys have not crossed paths early in their careers, Jamison’s work with the Fighting Illini’s defense has caught Brady’s attention, and he will now be making the jump to the NFL, as he was hired to be the Bills’ new defensive line coach.

“Bills are hiring Illinois co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Terrance Jamison as their Defensive Line coach,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported in a post on X.

Bills Looking to Make Super Bowl Run in 2026

A quick look at Super Bowl LX proves just how far a good coaching staff can take a team. Mike Vrabel has immediately turned things around for the New England Patriots in his first year with the team, while Mike Macdonald is in just his second season with the Seattle Seahawks. If Brady can nail his coaching staff, that will make things much easier for him.

Of course, you need to have the right players on the roster, too, and that’s going to be the next order of business for Buffalo. While Allen is arguably the best quarterback in the game right now, he needs more help from the rest of his team. Once Brady’s coaching staff is finalized, it will be up to the front office to find a way to improve the talent level of the roster through free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.
