Miami has brought in a quarterback with a familiar last name to their 90-man roster.

On Thursday, the Dolphins revealed the signing of undrafted rookie Brett Gabbert.

The Miami of Ohio product is the younger brother of former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert.

The Dolphins waived linebacker William Bradley-King in a corresponding move.

Brett Gabbert made 53 starts during his college career.

He completed 217 of 379 passes for 2,291 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in the 2024 campaign.

His brother, Blaine, is 11 years older than him and has played in the NFL for 13 seasons.

He won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs as Patrick Mahomes‘ backup.

Blaine will join a Dolphins quarterback room that consists of Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson, and seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers.

Tagovailoa earned a Pro Bowl selection in the 2023 season.

And he signed a four-year, $212 million contract last summer.

However, the Dolphins have to worry about Tagovailoa’s health as he suffered a concussion in the 2024 campaign.

He missed multiple games due to the serious injury.

Tagovailoa’s concussion only added to his history of head injuries.

As a result, there have been calls for him to retire at the age of 27.

The Dolphins will truly need a healthy Tua Tagovailoa in 2025 if they want to compete for a playoff spot.

Tagovailoa had a 6-5 record in the games he started last campaign, while the rest of the team’s quarterbacks had a 2-4 record.

Miami hasn’t won a playoff appearance since 2000.
