The Baltimore Ravens were named a leading trade destination for Las Vegas edge rusher Maxx Crosby. According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, Baltimore could sit at the top of the list:

“He has been fiercely loyal to Las Vegas. That loyalty will be tested more than ever in the coming weeks. The reality is the Raiders are still far away from significant winning, and the trade interest in Crosby is incredibly robust. In fact, I believe more than a dozen teams, possibly up to 20, will at least inquire with levels of serious intent. And there are some natural would-be contenders, including the Bills, Lions, 49ers, Cowboys, and Ravens.”

Fowler stated that Crosby wants to win, and that ranks among his most important desires if he were to be traded. In seven seasons with the Raiders, Crosby has made the playoffs just one time. Otherwise, he dealt with five losing seasons. Moreover, the coach’s instability does not exude organizational confidence. Including new head coach Klint Kubiak, six coaches have run the team.

Trading for Crosby Could Energize Pass Rush

Meanwhile, the Ravens, in the same amount of time, have made the playoffs five times and have employed three head coaches since 2000.

To his credit, Crosby has consistently given his team a pass-rush threat with a nonstop motor. More importantly, offenses need to game-plan for him. From chipping to keeping a tight end along the line of scrimmage, Crosby’s frenetic style makes a mark. During his career spanning 6,449 snaps, he’s tallied 69 sacks, 266 carries, and five forced fumbles.

On the other hand, the Ravens only sacked opponents 30 times. Combine that with the lack of an elite pass rusher, and teams could push the ball downfield while comfortably sitting in the pocket.

Crosby’s Play Mirrors Ravens’ Approach

If general manager Eric DeCosta can swing a deal for Crosby, he probably would fit into the team culture. Not to mention, he possesses a skill set that aligns with what head coach Jesse Minter wants to implement.

For example, he wants to place his edges on the line, with one with his hand in the dirt and the other standing. Crosby spent his entire career in both spots. Additionally, he excels at both veering wide and looping into the interior, creating pressure upfront.

From a cultural standpoint, Crosby earned a reputation not only as a great teammate but also as a locker room leader. In Baltimore, he will not need to dominate the locker room, as players like Lamar Jackson and Roquan Smith already do.

Cost to Acquire Crosby May Not Dissuade Baltimore

If the Micah Parsons-to-Green Bay deal could be used as a barometer, Baltimore would need to part with at least two first-round picks. Additionally, Dallas procured a starter in return. Looking at the Raiders’ needs, offensive line jumps to the top of the list. Parting with right tackle Roger Rosegarten could serve as the impetus to make a deal.

Despite Crosby’s meniscus surgery, Las Vegas general manager John Spytek isn’t going to offer a discount. The Raiders appear to reside in full rebuilding mode.
