The Pittsburgh Steelers and their fans tuned in Sunday evening. It felt like the New England Patriots might have made their way back within a matter of a few years. With the loss Sunday, the Steelers and Patriots remain tied for the most Super Bowl championships with six each. New England could have won an NFL record seventh Super Bowl title to take sole possession.
The Patriots had a very favorable path to get in this position. Not only did they have one of the NFL’s easiest schedules, but their postseason took advantage of back-to-back weak offensive lines and a backup quarterback in Denver. You can’t help who you are scheduled to play, however.
The Steelers now turn their focus to 2026. With a brand new coaching staff on hand, there are a lot of questions on the roster. Most notably, will quarterback Aaron Rodgers return to the team along with Cam Heyward, TJ Watt, and a few cut candidates?

Head Coach Mike McCarthy will need to figure out if there is a quarterback worth taking in this year’s draft. The NFL Combine and college pro days draw near, along with free agency, and then, of course, the NFL Draft.
For now, though, the Steelers and Patriots remain in a footrace to break their Super Bowl tie. The Patriots will be eager to get back as they look to put this ugly loss behind them.
