The site of Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara, California, is officially a house of horrors for second-year NFL MVP finalist Drake Maye.

Both as the New England Patriots‘ quarterback, following a 29-13 drubbing at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, and yes, as a young Carolina Panthers fan — when he was 13 years old — where his favorite team as a kid got humbled by the Denver Broncos‘ defense 24-10 in Super Bowl 50 a decade ago. It’s purely and entirely a coincidence, but phew, what rotten luck in the same place, in two different parts of Maye’s football fandom and football life in general.

After the latest devastating loss for Maye in the same stadium, I can’t imagine he’ll be thinking about it in fond terms for the rest of his playing career. You don’t simply shake off the place you lost the first Super Bowl you went to as a young fan and as a playing quarterback.
