After all the build up to the Super Bowl, what transpired on the field at Levi’s Stadium may not have been that entertaining to a national audience. But it sure was a sight to see for fans of the Seattle Seahawks.

Best Super Bowl champ since 2000? Why Seahawks have a case

The Seahawks took control early and never relinquished their grip on the game on the way to a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots that never felt more lopsided than the final score indicated.

Seattle’s stellar defense didn’t allow any points through the first three quarters. It pressured Patriots quarterback Drake Maye all game long, racking up 11 quarterback hits and six sacks. And it put the exclamation point on its stellar performance with a pick-six from Uchenna Nwosu in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Walker III led the offense with 135 yards on the ground and Sam Darnold played turnover-free football for the fourth straight game.

It all added up to a dominant victory for Seattle in a season where it flew under the radar, despite winning one the toughest divisions the NFL has ever seen.

“It’s not about the nobody believed in us, because that’s different. This is no one even knows we exist, and they should know they exist now,” Mike Salk said Monday during Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk. “They should know that this defense is ridiculous. That was as good a Super Bowl performance as you’re going to see from a defense. They should know that this offense and the complementary game that Mike wants them to play is real.”

Salk is excited about what lies ahead for these Seahawks.

They were among the youngest teams in the NFL this season. They also have a young coach in the 38-year-old Mike Macdonald, who’s already established himself as the top defensive play-caller in the league. Many of their top players are still under contract for at least another season. And they head into the offseason with the sixth-most salary cap space available ($73,284,461) in the league, per OverTheCap.

“I’m excited about what this team accomplished. I also truly believe, and I know everyone says this after a Super Bowl win, I think they’re poised and ready for the future as well,” Salk said. “I don’t feel like this is one-hit-wonder time. Doesn’t mean they’re definitely gonna win more Super Bowls, but I don’t think this is, ‘Oh, that was a really cool thing and now it’s just gonna go away.’ I don’t. I don’t think that’s what we’re watching here. I think this is a pretty cool, unique spot that the Seahawks are in where they could keep winning these.”
