The Denver Broncos have needed tight end help for years.
They thought they found it in free agency last spring, signing veteran Evan Engram to a two-year contract worth $23 million.
Unfortunately, Engram was a disappointment in his first season with the Broncos.
He played in 16 of 17 contests, but never really seemed to make game-breaking plays. Engram finished with 50 catches for 461 yards and only one touchdown. In two playoff games, Engram added only three catches for 26 yards.
So, could tight end be a priority for head coach Sean Payton and GM George Paton this offseason? It’s definitely a possibility.
And on Monday night, long-time Browns tight end David Njoku officially entered the chat as a potential option. He’s done in Cleveland.

Njoku played nine seasons with the Browns, catching 384 passes for more than 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns. He was a beast in 2023, hauling in more than 80 passes for nearly 900 yards and six touchdowns.
Last year wasn’t his best (33 catches, 293 yards, four touchdowns) but the Cleveland QB situation was a mess all season. The 29-year-old is eager to prove he has a lot left in the tank, but his message above is clear that’ll be with a new team.
If the Broncos cut Engram, that’ll count for more than $10 million in dead cap space. Payton and Paton could look to find a trade partner, unloading most of the contract in the last year of his deal. Plus, Engram is two years older than Njoku.
NFL free agency is set to open next month and you can bet Njoku will have a handful of suitors.
It wouldn’t shock anyone if the Broncos are among them, perhaps just a piece or two away from getting over the hump to be Super Bowl champions once again.
