DeMarcus Lawrence took another shot at the Cowboys after winning Super Bowl LX with the Seahawks

The Dallas Cowboys, like every other team in the NFL, were likely keeping close tabs on Super Bowl LX, which saw the Seattle Seahawks prevail over the New England Patriots by a final score of 29-13. Old friend DeMarcus Lawrence has won the first Super Bowl ring of his career, and after the game, he ended up taking some shots at his former team.

Lawrence went viral for spurning Dallas in free agency last offseason to sign with the Seahawks, claiming that he believed they were in a better position to win a Super Bowl. Simply put, Lawrence correctly called his shot, and after receiving quite a bit of grief for his decision, he decided to rub some salt in the gaping wounds the Cowboys and their fans are currently nursing.

A second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Lawrence spent the first 11 years of his career with the Cowboys, and he ended up becoming one of the most well-rounded defensive ends in the league. Not only could Lawrence rush the passer, setting a career-high with 14.5 sacks in 2017, but he also could set the edge against the run, essentially making him a three-down player.

After missing all but four games in 2024 due to a foot injury, Lawrence ended up signing a three-year, $42 million contract with the Seahawks in free agency. Considering Lawrence’s recent injury woes, this seemed like a bit of a risky move, but Lawrence put together one of the best seasons of his career (53 tackles, six sacks, one pass deflection, three fumbles forced, two touchdowns), helping Seattle’s defense emerge as one of the top units in the league.

Lawrence was criticized heavily by fans for believing that Seattle was in a better position than Dallas to win a championship, but sure enough, his prediction ended up coming true. And now, he’s dancing on the Cowboys’ grave, simply saying that logos don’t win Super Bowls in the NFL, no matter what the team of their fans may think.

“Y’all have to understand, at this moment, it’s about me and me alone,” Lawrence said in an interview with Josina Anderson after the game. “I appreciate all my fans that supported me through it all, but at the end of the day, players win championships, not logos.”

On one hand, there’s probably a section of Cowboys fans who are happy to see Lawrence win his first Super Bowl championship. And yet, it’s clear that he doesn’t have much love for his former team, given how things ended between the two sides. At the end of the day, letting Lawrence leave in free agency is another misfire from Dallas’ front office.

It’s been a tough year for the Cowboys, but they have an opportunity to revamp their roster ahead of the 2026 campaign. As they showed in 2025, though, this team needs some serious help if it intends to find its way back to the playoffs. Lawrence is proof that every single move, even the ones you don’t make, is important in the NFL, which means Dallas has to find a way to push the right buttons this offseason after failing to do so last year.
