The New York Jets are in the middle of an odd situation. With Justin Fields not panning out, Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey need to find a new quarterback.
While they, in theory, could wait until the 2027 NFL Draft to take one of the top options, neither Glenn nor Mougey is guaranteed to last until then. Finding a QB now is a big priority, because if they don’t, they might not have a job with the Jets next year.
The need at QB is clear, and ESPN’s Ben Solak predicts the Jets will land their new quarterback in a trade. Specifically, Solak predicts that the Jets will win the trade sweepstakes for Pro Bowl QB Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals.
Jets predicted to win Kyler Murray trade sweepstakes
“The Jets do have plenty of money to acquire either Tua Tagovailoa or Kyler Murray,” Solak writes. “… If I had to guess where Murray ends up next season, this would be my spot.”
The Jets have plenty of money and plenty of draft assets to swing trades this offseason. While they could go after Tua Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins QB, their familiarity likely means the struggling lefty isn’t an option.
Murray, on the other hand, is a two-time Pro Bowler who, while injured and struggling this season, is still someone worth taking a chance on.
But adding someone like Murray in a trade won’t be easy. There will be other teams interested in the 5-foot-10 quarterback, and his contract won’t be an easy fit for the Jets, or any team, in a trade this offseason.

Murray is currently in the middle of a five-year, $230 million contract. The Cardinals have had him through the first few years of this deal, but with the 2026, 2027, and 2028 seasons still to go, Murray is a trade candidate.
That 2028 season is a $34 million team option, which the Jets could very easily get out of after acquiring him in a trade.
He carries cap hits of $52 million and $43 million in 2026 and 2027, respectively. But the Jets have the money, as Solak mentions, and he’s a clear top option for the Jets.
Murray to the Jets is very much in play this offseason, as Murray has shown enough promise in his NFL career that he’s worth taking a flier on from the Jets’ perspective.
The only question would be how much the Jets have to give the Cardinals to land the seven-year veteran QB taken first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.
