The Buffalo Bills are approaching a crucial offseason, and they have several roster options to consider.
One area the Bills should consider upgrading is at wide receiver, where they could explore veteran free-agent options or even make a significant trade.
In 2020, the Bills made a notable trade, sending four draft picks, including their first-round selection in that year’s NFL Draft, to the Vikings in exchange for wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Now, there’s a possibility that Buffalo is setting its sights on another receiver from Minnesota.
Bills Predicted to Trade For Justin Jefferson
CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani published an article on Tuesday regarding his NFL predictions for the upcoming offseason. He suggested the Bills could trade for Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
“Joe Brady’s name popped up on NFL radars in 2019, when he served as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at LSU,” Dajani wrote. “The undefeated Tigers had a historical season, which was powered by the play of Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase. Now, he’s the head coach of the Bills, and this offseason, Buffalo makes an aggressive move to pair its new coach with a friend of his — sending the Minnesota Vikings a package of picks for Jefferson.”
Jefferson played under the new Bills head coach, Joe Brady, when Brady served as LSU’s quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator in 2019.
If the Bills are considering a trade for Jefferson, they will likely have to offer at least two first-round picks, and that could just be the beginning of the negotiations.
There’s no doubt that Jefferson is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and he’s never had a quarterback in his career as skilled as Josh Allen. In 2024, Jefferson played alongside Sam Darnold, who has been great over the last two seasons, racking up 1,533 receiving yards and scoring 10 touchdowns across 17 games.
Buffalo Should Go All In This Offseason
It would be awesome to see Allen get to throw to Jefferson, and the Bills should do everything they can to take a big swing.
“Why would Buffalo choose now to take a big swing at receiver? After all, Brandon Beane hasn’t been this aggressive before. Realize that the Bills front office is under just as much pressure as Brady to prove that the firing of Sean McDermott wasn’t a mistake,” Dajani added. “It’s about winning right now for the Bills, and what they will do is lean into Brady’s vision for the offense. Yes, Brady oversaw the No. 1 rushing attack in the NFL this past season, but his background is passing the ball.”
The Bills may have only a few more seasons to make the most of Allen’s prime, as he will turn 30 this offseason. Going all-in to secure a top receiver like Jefferson could be the key to finally getting Buffalo to the Super Bowl.
Buffalo has to make a significant roster move this offseason, and adding Jefferson could be the biggest change the Bills pursue.
