The Jacksonville Jaguars currently find themselves in a tight salary cap situation.
According to Over the Cap, the Jaguars are $11.433 million over the projected 2026 salary cap. Only four teams have less cap space than Jacksonville.
So there is work to be done by GM James Gladstone to create more room and spending power.
One move that Gladstone can make is extending Travon Walker.
Last offseason, the Jaguars picked up Walker’s fifth-year option for the 2026 season. This is effectively a one-year deal and comes with a pre-determined salary of $15.19 million, and that entire amount must be absorbed on the 2026 salary cap books.

An extension, however, would help create more cap room. Although a lot more money is added to the deal, there are more years added as well, providing a longer runway for current cap charges to be pushed towards — thus creating cap space in 2026.
By OTC’s calculations, the Jaguars could create a maximum of $11.18 million in cap space this offseason by extending Walker.
During Gladstone’s end-of-season press conference, he mentioned that one of the things he appreciates about Travon Walker is how much he cares about his teammates and being a part of the Jaguars’ organization.
“He’s someone we want to align ourselves with moving forward,” Gladstone said.
Again, Walker is under contract for this season, so signing an extension isn’t an urgent matter this offseason, but it would help the Jaguars’ cap situation.
