The Los Angeles Chargers are doing some moving and shaking on offense this offseason as Mike McDaniel is now Justin Herbert’s offensive coordinator.

For an offense that has struggled for years, maybe 2026 is the year it comes together for Herbert.

But he needs weapons.

With three receivers all getting under 800 yards, there was no difference-maker for Herbert, as Ladd McConkey was the Chargers’ best weapon with 789 yards and 6 TDs.

But what if the Chargers were aggressive this offseason in acquiring a weapon for Herbert?

In a crazy prediction, CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani has L.A. going after San Francisco 49ers weapon Brandon Aiyuk.

“Following his release from the San Francisco 49ers, Aiyuk will sign with the Chargers to help Justin Herbert reach that next level,” Dajani writes. “Aiyuk turns 28 in March, and missed all of last season as he recovered from the torn ACL suffered in October 2024. In L.A., Aiyuk finds an offense ready to take off.”

Could Chargers sign Aiyuk?

Absolutely, and it would be a low-risk, high-reward for the Chargers.

With Aiyuk coming off an ACL injury, not much will be expected from him, so the Chargers can give him a lifeline of sorts.

Already with McConkey, Keenan Allen, and Quentin Johnson as Herbert’s weapons, Aiyuk would shoot straight to the top of the depth chart, we’d imagine.

Spotrac.com has Aiyuk’s value at $12 million APY, so offer a one-year, prove-it deal to Aiyuk and see what happens.

Herbert needs more weapons around him, and what McDaniel could do with Aiyuk is an interesting thought to see play out.
