The Chargers are named a landing spot for a former Pro Bowler
The biggest offseason priority for the Los Angeles Chargers is the offensive line, having one of the worst graded front fives in the 2025 season.
Now with a new offensive coaching staff, the Bolts can work on the problem. But this should not distract them from other needs on the offense.
Justin Herbert had his third straight season recording under 3,900 passing yards, after beginning his career with three consecutive seasons throwing for more than 4,300 yards.
With Mike McDaniel now his new offensive coordinator, Herbert could return to his former passing prowess.

Justin Herbert has never had a tight end produce over 700 receiving yards in a single season, but he has worked with some respected players at the position, but never a Pro Bowl tight end (in their time in Los Angeles).
That could change with a 2017 first-round selection announcing that he won’t return to his team for the 2026 season.
Soon-to-be former Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku has revealed that he will hit free agency after 9 seasons with the organization.
Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick dropped four teams he believes are possible landing spots for Njoku, naming the Bolts as one of them.
“While Justin Herbert apparently did enough to warrant a single first-place MVP vote for his performance in 2025, he could still use another top-tier target on offense in order to truly get the Chargers over the hump. Rookie Oronde Gadsden II led Los Angeles’s tight ends in receptions (49), receiving yards (664), and touchdowns (3) this season, but also struggled with drops—failing to secure five catchable passes,” Kadlick wrote.
“The big-name additions of Mike McDaniel and Adam Gase to the Chargers’ staff is indicitive of their goal to bring their offense to the next level. Signing Njoku would further that vision by adding a proven playmaker to the mix.”
Playing in the City of Angels gives Njoku something he has yet to do in his career: playing with one of the top quarterbacks in the league. In the 2025 season alone, Njoku had three quarterbacks throwing his way, which hindered his performance to some degree.
Njoku, who is a former 29th overall selection, produced 882 yards and 6 touchdowns in his best season in the NFL, earning him a Pro Bowl nod.
Now with Justin Herbert as his QB? The tight end can achieve Pro Bowl status again.
The Bolts may be able to sign Njoku on a cheap deal due to his age and his lack of production with the Browns this season, only recording 293 yards.
Addition to Coaching Staff
GettyThe Chargers made another addition to the offensive coaching staff
Adam Gase is returning to the NFL after six seasons away from the game, joining the Los Angeles Chargers as the team’s pass game coordinator.
Gase returns after last being the head coach of the New York Jets and will now replace Marcus Brady, who joined former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter’s coaching staff in Baltimore.
A change of scenery and a change of coaching staff will be a huge factor for David Njoku, who previously was under Kevin Stefanski for the last six years.
Led by Jim Harbaugh, who was great relationships with his players, a bounce-back season for Njoku seems possible.
