The Philadelphia Eagles are connected to Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku as a potential replacement for Dallas Goedert.

CBS SportsJared Dubin identified the veteran tight end as a logical option if Goedert leaves in free agency.

Philadelphia is facing real uncertainty at tight end this offseason, as Goedert, Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson are all set to hit the open market.

That would leave Cameron Latu as the only returning tight end currently under contract.

Dubin pointed directly to the Eagles as a possible landing spot.

He wrote that Philadelphia “could have a need here if Goedert decides to pursue opportunities elsewhere.”

He added that the team “needs to figure out a way to open up the middle of the field for their offense, and Njoku could help them do that.”

Njoku recently announced on Instagram that he will not return to the Browns in 2026.

He thanked the organization and the city after nine seasons with the team.

The 29-year-old now heads into free agency as one of the most experienced pass-catching tight ends available.

Eagles Facing Serious Tight End Uncertainty

If Goedert departs, the Eagles may have no choice but to reshape the position entirely.

Goedert has been a steady target for Jalen Hurts and a key part of the offense, but replacing him would require both production and reliability.

Njoku has shown he can provide that.

In 2023, his last fully healthy season, he recorded 81 receptions for 882 yards and six touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection.

He followed that with 505 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games in 2024.

Though his 2025 production dipped to 293 yards, he played just 12 games while dealing with injuries and inconsistent quarterback play.

Njoku has earned $69 million in career earnings.

Now, Spotrac projects he could command around $10 million annually, with a projected two-year, $19.9 million deal this offseason.

Why Njoku Makes Sense in Philadelphia

Financially, the move would be manageable.

The Eagles are projected to have around $20 million in cap space and can create additional flexibility before free agency opens.

If Goedert walks, general manager Howie Roseman would need a proven option that he can plug right in.

Njoku offers athleticism, size and experience.

He can stretch the seam, work the middle of the field and contribute as a run blocker.

With new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion expected to install a Shanahan-McVay style offensive system in Philadelphia, the Eagles will likely lean heavily on wide zone concepts and play action to open up the middle of the field.

Njoku already has experience in Kevin Stefanski’s Shanahan-Kubiak rooted scheme, which would make him a natural fit in a similar structure under Mannion.

For now, Njoku’s potential future in Philadelphia depends on the Eagles’ free agency decision regarding Dallas Goedert.
