The New York Jets had a very rough 2025 season in Aaron Glenn’s first year as head coach. Not only did they finish with just three wins, but they missed the first overall pick and franchise quarterback hopeful Fernando Mendoza.
And the cherry on top was seeing former Jets first-round quarterback Sam Darnold go on to win the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, the fifth team he’s been on.
After winning the Super Bowl, Darnold was asked about his time with the Jets and his reaction to Jets fans still supporting him today. Justin Fried of Fansided shared Darnold’s reaction, which was a grateful one for the Jets fanbase for having his back.
Sam Darnold has a very grateful message for Jets fans after winning Super Bowl with Seahawks
“That’s all you can ask for as a player is to feel supported,” Darnold said, especially by the team that drafted me. I always look at myself and feel like I could’ve done a lot more for that franchise when I was there. And the fact that they’re able to support me even through that means a lot.”
I asked Sam Darnold if he had a message to #Jets fans who have continued to support him:
“Thank you.”

Darnold left the Jets after just a few years, and the first-round QB seemingly hit a wall. The infamous “seeing ghosts” game was the beginning of the end for Darnold in New York.
But, even through all of that, the Jets fans have never had animosity for Darnold, and the reaction to Darnold winning the Super Bowl was positive (especially since he beat the New England Patriots).
Darnold is thankful to Jets fans for continuing to support him even after all that has happened since he left the team years ago.

He’s spent time with the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, and this season, won the Super Bowl with the Seahawks.
It’s one of the more incredible career arcs in NFL history, and the Jets were the team that began his story in the NFL. While it didn’t go well in New York, the fans and Darnold have an appreciation for one another.
While Darnold easily could’ve commented on how the Jets, or any of his previous teams, didn’t believe in him, he took the high road, even complimenting the fan base instead.
He’s a very gracious winner, and this comment on the Jets fanbase is a great example of the kind of person Darnold is. He’s very appreciative of his time with the Jets and still holds a soft spot in his heart for the fan base.
