The Dolphins signed cornerback Miles Battle
The Miami Dolphins’ new front office has gotten to work, making several under-the-radar signings. In his introductory press conference, new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan spoke about his job being a 365-day-a-year job, and after his first few weeks with the Dolphins, it has become clear that he meant it.
Since being hired, Sullivan has signed a former Packers defensive player and a tight-end with incredible athleticism. He has a clear idea of the type of players he wants to target. Regarding the traits he looks for in a player, Sullivan said, “Mental toughness, physical toughness, you start there from a character standpoint and a burning desire to want to be the best that you can be and win.”
Now, he’s signed a new player, and this time it is a player who’s fresh off a Super Bowl loss.
Miami Dolphins Sign Former Patriots Cornerback
The Miami Dolphins announced they had signed cornerback Miles Battle. Battle had been with the New England Patriots since the 2024 season. He alternated between the active roster and the practice squad throughout his tenure. In 2025, he appeared in five games with the Patriots. He primarily played special teams in 2025, but he did play 29 defensive snaps in the Patriots’ win against the Jets in Week 17.
Battle was originally a wide receiver in college for Ole Miss, but he later transitioned to cornerback during the 2020 season. He signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2024 before going to New England during the regular season.
At 6-foot-3, the Dolphins have added another big-bodied player, after signing 6-foot-8 Zach Kuntz and 6-foot-2 Terrace Marshall. It appears the Dolphins are taking low-risk swings on athletic upside. With his background as a wide receiver, Battle also has ball skills if he earns snaps in the Dolphins’ secondary.
Regarding free agency, Miami’s general manager said, “We’ll be disciplined, we’ll be intentional, and we will chase difference makers that add value to the field immediately but also add value to our locker room in terms of the kind of culture that we want to build.” The Dolphins will hope Battle can contribute on defense and in the locker room.
Miami Dolphins Secondary
The Dolphins’ secondary is currently a weakness on the roster. Both of their starting cornerbacks are set to be free agents, meanwhile two safeties, are also set to hit free agency With some veteran signings, the Dolphins managed to have a decent secondary last year, but they will struggle to retain all of their pieces as they are projected to have the fourth-least cap space in the NFL.
Miami’s best cornerback in 2025 was Rasul Douglas, who has expressed his desire to return to the Dolphins, but he will be 32 entering next season and may not figure in the team’s long-term plans. Additionally, defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick had a strong season in his return to Miami, but the expectation is the Dolphins will explore trade options. Battle marked the first free agent addition the Dolphins have made this offseason to a standard contract, as safety Omar Brown signed a reserve/future deal.
