The San Francisco 49ers haven’t played a game in weeks after they fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round of the playoffs.

While there’s still about a month before the start of the new league year, there’s plenty of work to be done, including decisions on the future of roughly 30 pending free agents.

Among those players set to hit the market in March is linebacker Curtis Robinson. Let’s take some time to analyze the decision that they’ll have to make on Robinson.

Curtis Robinson 2025 season recap

Robinson missed most of the 2024 season after tearing his ACL in practice, and he returned in 2025 as a member of the practice squad out of camp. However, he was quickly promoted to the active and went on to appear in 14 games and start two with a career-high 42 tackles. He was also named the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for the second year in a row.

Robinson isn’t the only 49ers linebacker hitting the market this offseason, as Luke Gifford, Garret Wallow and Eric Kendricks will join him. That leaves Nick Martin, Milo Eifler and Jalen Graham as the top internal candidates to take Robinson’s spot.

In free agency, San Francisco could also consider Malcolm Rodriguez, Jerome Baker and D’Marco Jackson among others for the role.

What contract could Curtis Robinson receive as a free agent?

The 28-year-old played on a one-year, $1.17 million deal in 2025. While Robinson is coming off of his best season and isn’t recovering from a torn ACL, he could make more than he did last year. Expect him to receive a deal worth around $3 million annually.

Should the 49ers re-sign Curtis Robinson?

Robinson filled in well when needed last season, and he’s clearly a good example for the locker room, as a two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee. That’s worth something. Bringing Robinson back to compete for a depth spot would make a lot of sense for the 49ers.
