The Buffalo Bills closed out the 2025 regular season with high expectations but ultimately fell short in the postseason despite another strong year from franchise quarterback Josh Allen.
In March, the Bills rewarded Allen with a six-year, $330 million contract extension that includes a record-setting $250 million in guaranteed money, the most guaranteed in NFL history, keeping him under contract through the 2030 season.

Allen finished the season with solid production, throwing for 3,668 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while contributing 14 touchdowns on the ground and helping the Bills finish with a 12-5 record and earn a postseason berth. Buffalo advanced to the divisional round before falling to the Denver Broncos, 33-30 in overtime.

Despite solid quarterback play and a top-ranked rushing attack, Buffalo’s wide receiver room struggled to produce consistently, ranking 24th in the league.

As the Bills look toward 2026 and try to retool after their playoff exit, Buffalo made its first official roster additions of the offseason.
The team announced Wednesday that it has signed wide receiver Jalen Virgil and quarterback Shane Buechele to one-year deals, both coming in on reserve contracts that will allow them to join the Bills’ offseason roster and compete for spots during workouts, OTAs and training camp.
Virgil, 27, originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and spent time on Buffalo’s practice squad before seeing limited action in 2024. He appeared in seven games and contributed mainly on special teams and in depth receiver roles. Virgil spent part of the 2025 season on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad.

Buechele, 28, spent much of the 2025 season on Buffalo’s practice squad before a late-season stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he saw game action and completed 7 of 14 passes for 88 yards in the regular-season finale. He returns to Buffalo with familiarity in the system and could compete with Mitchell Trubisky for backup quarterback duties behind Allen as the offseason progresses.
