The Las Vegas Raiders finally have a new head coach. Yet, like the Antonio Pierce hire two offseasons ago, Klint Kubiak comes with zero previous NFL head coaching experience. Of course, judging off last year’s performance under the extremely experienced Pete Carroll, maybe trying something different isn’t such a bad idea.

Yet, this time the Raiders need to everything in their power to ensure their new, inexpeirenced head coach does better with his first opportunity. Thus, the Raiders are hiring someone who has ben an NFL head coach before to their staff.

On Thursday, the Raiders added Mike McCoy to Kubiak’s staff, as the assistant head coach. McCoy, 53, spent last season as a senior offensive consultant with the Tennessee Titans. He wound up ending the season as their interim head coach after Brian Callahan was fired. That wans’t the first time McCoy acted as head coach for an NFL team.

He was also the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2013 to 2016. McCoy led his teams to a 29-46 record as a head coach, but he won’t have nearly as many duties in his new role.

Aside from four off years from 2012 to 2022, McCoy, 53, has been a coach in the NFL since 2000. Now he’ll bring his near three decades worth of experience to Las Vegas, where he’ll be coach Kubiak’s right-hand man.
