Former Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is expected to continue his NFL career as a quarterbacks coach with the Arizona Cardinals.
HOUSTON — Former Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is expected to take the next step in his football career on the sidelines.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the Arizona Cardinals are expected to hire Schaub as a quarterbacks coach.
Schaub played in the NFL from 2004 to 2020, making 93 career starts. Schaub starred for the Texans from 2007 to 2012. During the 2009 season, he led the league with 4,770 passing yards.
Zenitz also noted that Schaub is expected to be part of Mike LaFleur’s first coaching staff in Arizona. The two previously crossed paths in 2016, when LaFleur worked for the Atlanta Falcons while Schaub was a player during his second stint with the team.
The Falcons drafted the former University of Virginia quarterback in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He was then traded to the Texans in 2007 for a second-round pick.
The move would not be Schaub’s first experience on an NFL coaching staff. Zenitz reported that Schaub previously worked as an analyst with the Falcons during the 2023 season.
If finalized, the hire would mark another chapter in Schaub’s long NFL career, this time helping develop quarterbacks from the sidelines in Arizona.
