The New York Giants‘ offense was one of the worst in the NFL in 2024, scoring over 20 points in just four of their 17 contests. One of the main culprits was the passing game, which had the fewest completions (34) over 20 yards and just 15 touchdowns.

One of the primary goals of general manager Joe Schoen this offseason was to revamp his quarterback room, something he did quickly once the new league year started in March. He dumped Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tim Boyle and added Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart.

Things should begin to change around East Rutherford — and soon.

Last season, the Giants were one of the worst deep-passing teams in the NFL. The addition of Wilson alone should solve that issue. Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus listed the Wilson signing as the Giants’ biggest impact acquisition of the offseason.

Russell Wilson brings his patented moon ball to Gotham City after leading the NFL with a 97.3 deep passing grade last season. Even with the addition of superstar wide receiver Malik Nabers, the Giants struggled to throw the ball downfield last season. As a team, they recorded just a 67.4 deep passing grade in 2024, 4th-worst in the NFL.

In all fairness to the Giants’ previous quarterback unit, the coaches didn’t call for them to throw deep very often. That was due to the fact that a) the offensive line was trusted to pass protect and b) they didn’t really have the talent to complete deep passes.

If there’s something their new quarterback unit can do, it’s throw deep. We should see this early and often in training camp and in preseason.
