John Fox is back in the NFL.

The Buffalo Bills announced Friday that Fox has joined Joe Brady’s coaching staff as a senior assistant coach. Fox, 71, last worked in the NFL as a senior defensive assistant with the Detroit Lions in 2023. He had that same title with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022 following a four-year break from coaching.

Fox served as the Carolina Panthers‘ head coach from 2002-2010, going 73-71. After that, he served as the Denver Broncos‘ head coach from 2011-2014. Denver went 46-18, won the AFC West in all four seasons and reached a Super Bowl under Fox, but he was fired after getting knocked out of the playoffs by the Colts in the divisional round of the 2014 playoffs. Denver then hired Gary Kubiak and won a Super Bowl in 2015.

After his time with the Broncos, Fox went 14-34 in three seasons as head coach of the Chicago Bears. He stepped away from coaching following the 2017 season, returning four years later with Indy. Following another break, Fox is now back in the league, this time in Buffalo.
