In the coming days, I’ll be doing brief synopses for each NFL team regarding their current cap situation and offseason approach they should take.

We’ll start with the teams that have the most cap space available, then work our way down to those teams who have less cap space, to those who have work to do to gain cap space.

Each synopsis will look at cap space (or how much over the cap), players under contract, total draft picks, any players with a fifth-year option decision ahead and notes about the most notable free agent, the most likely player cut and the quarterback situation.

Our next team in this series is the Denver Broncos.

Players under contract for 2026: 54

Projected cap space: $28.9M

Total draft picks: Nine (No. 30 in first)

Most notable free agent: John Franklin-Myers

Most likely roster cut: Matt Peart

Fifth-year option decision: None

Quarterback situation: Bo Nix showed enough improvement to justify him keeping the starting job for 2026.

The ideal offseason approach:

The Broncos have cap space and flexibility with contracts to gain more space, so they can add the final pieces they believe will help them get to the Super Bowl. They might be prepared to trade for an offensive playmaker.

General manager George Paton has a shown a propensity for emphasizing retention of players that have been with the team for multiple years. It’s possible they could bring back a couple of their own free agents, depending on how the market develops.

The Broncos don’t have any fifth-year option decisions to make but they may need to consider which of their 2023 draft picks are worth extending.
