The San Francisco 49ers are facing a make-or-break offseason. After retooling in 2025, the 49ers possess the financial flexibility to be big spenders in free agency and catapult them into legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
Speed within the receiving corps is a must, and generally, the roster could be smoothed out around the edges.
However, before John Lynch and company sort out who they’ll add to the roster, they must decide on impending free agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

San Francisco 49ers Not Expected to Re-Sign Jauan Jennings
According to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, Jauan Jennings is not expected to return to the 49ers in 2026.
“He certainly sounds like a guy who expects to be playing elsewhere next year,” Maiocco said on his YouTube channel. “The two sides could not come together on a contract extension before the start of the 2025 season. From what I understand, Jennings’ side was asking for a lot of money — $20 million plus.”
Maiocco continued by stating that at the right price, the 49ers would like to keep Jennings, but refers to the receiver’s robust market, which could limit the odds of his return.
Jennings has become the 49ers’ most reliable wideout over the last few seasons. With former All-Pro Brandon Aiyuk injured and refusing to play, Jennings and quarterback Brock Purdy built unquestionable chemistry.
Since 2024, Jennings has ranked second behind George Kittle with 132 receptions and 1,618 yards. Jennings is also tied for the team lead with 15 receiving touchdowns over the last two seasons.
The bump in production led to a minor holdout in last year’s training camp, which was rewarded by an incentive-heavy contract restructure.
Now anticipating a deal north of $22 million per year, according to Spotrac, Jennings is set to hit free agency for the first time in his career with multiple teams vying for his services.
Two Potential Suitors for Jauan Jennings
Maiocco lists the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals as two potential top suitors for Jennings.
New Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur runs a similar offensive system, making for a plug-and-play type transition. Meanwhile, Tennessee is where Jennings was born, attended college, and where former 49ers’ defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is now the head coach.
Both destinations have their merits, and it would not be shocking to see both the Cardinals and Titans in the mix for Jennings’ services.
Maiocco reiterates the Niners’ desire to re-sign Jennings but fully expects him to sign elsewhere in free agency.
