The offseason quarterback market got a bit more interesting recently when it was reported that Derek Carr could come out of retirement.

Carr retired in 2025 after it was revealed he needed shoulder surgery that could knock him out for the entire season. The report, which came from NFL Network, noted that Carr is healthy now.

Carr has since responded to the report that he could come out of retirement and confirmed that he is indeed considering it.

However, Carr greatly reduced his possible landing spots by admitting he would only return to a team that gives him a chance to win a Super Bowl.

“Would I come back? The answer is yes. Would I do it for anybody? Absolutely not. I’d have to be healthy and have a chance to win a Super Bowl,” Carr revealed on the Home Grown podcast with his brother, David.

If Carr does come out of retirement, he would have to be traded, as the New Orleans Saints still hold his contractual rights.

The Saints will likely have no issue parting with Carr as the team moved forward with Tyler Shough. New Orleans also won’t want Carr’s contract on the books.

The first team that comes to mind that could have interest in Carr is the Minnesota Vikings, who are reportedly in the market for a veteran insurance policy for J.J. McCarthy, who failed to cement himself as the long-term answer.

McCarthy was the biggest roadblock to the Vikings making the playoffs. Even with that issue, Minnesota still won nine games. An upgrade at quarterback could make Minnesota a true contender in 2026, which is why Carr could have interest.

After comments he made praising New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and the team’s fans, there was a belief that maybe Carr would consider joining Gang Green. But with the Jets rebuilding, they don’t check the contender box Carr is looking for.
