“It’s a great feeling, obviously. I think it’s a testament to the work I put in and the support system I’ve had, and the team that we went out there with and the defense,” Schwesinger said.
“I think it wouldn’t be possible without all those guys that I played with.”
It was the first time in Browns history that two of their players won the Defensive Player of the Year and the Defensive Rookie of the Year in the same season.
While Cleveland suffered a 5-12 season, the team’s defense allowed just 283.6 total yards per game, which was fourth in the NFL.
Garrett was a major part of that, as he didn’t record a sack in just four of the 17 games he started.
Schwesinger was glad to be able to witness Garrett’s historic season, which certainly helped his play in his rookie campaign.
“Pretty cool to see. Pretty cool to watch first-hand, too, during the season. Obviously, playing with him makes my job a whole lot easier,” Schwesigner said on seeing Garrett earn the hardware.
“I’m definitely looking forward to continuing [playing with him].”
The Browns fired Kevin Stefanski after the season and hired the offensive-minded Todd Monken as their head coach.
While the offense, which was at the bottom in most statistics last season, certainly needs fixing in 2026, the defense will mostly remain the same.
Still, Cleveland will have to hire a new defensive coordinator after Jim Schwartz resigned from the position.
