Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson must replace offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, 29, who left for the same role with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, Jan. 30, according to Sports Illustrated. The move creates a substantial but not devastating gap, as Johnson designs the offense.
Doyle lists luxe home bought from predecessor
Doyle and wife Erin listed their Green Oaks house for $2.1 million, according to the Chicago Tribune. The six-bedroom, 4,393-square-foot home has a Libertyville address. They bought it in March 2025 for $1.95 million from ex-Bears OC Shane Waldron, who was fired mid-2024 season, the Tribune reported.
Built in 1994, the home features a remodeled kitchen with quartzite counters and high-end appliances, the Tribune states. A primary suite also boasts heated floors and a steam shower. The lower level has a wine cellar, exercise room and kids’ rec space. Outside, a 0.92-acre lot holds a new saltwater pool and brick patios. According to the Tribune, property taxes hit $26,827 last year.Â
The sale underscores swift NFL coaching turnover. Doyle’s brief Bears tenure mirrors the home’s handover from Waldron. Johnson eyes a quick hire to keep the momentum with Williams.
Top candidates for seamless Bears transition
Four strong candidates emerge for the Bears’ OC job, Sports Illustrated notes. One works in-house at Halas Hall. Others bring NFL experience and ties to star quarterback Caleb Williams.
Tanner Engstrand tops Sports Illustrated’s list as an old friend of Johnson. He served five years in Detroit, including as pass game coordinator. Engstrand became the New York Jets OC in 2025 but was fired after one season, according to Sports Illustrated. His familiarity ensures quick adaptation.

Nate Scheelhaase, Rams pass game coordinator, built a strong aerial attack for Matt Stafford, Sports Illustrated says. Multiple teams interviewed him for OC and head coach roles. Pairing him with Williams could boost the Bears while hurting an NFC foe.
Davis Webb, Denver’s 31-year-old quarterbacks coach, has drawn interest, too. He might see the Bears’ role as a step up, following Doyle’s rapid rise. And J.T. Barrett, Bears quarterbacks coach, offers the smoothest shift. At 31, he knows Johnson’s system and bonds with Williams, per Sports Illustrated.
