Klint Kubiak and John Spytek of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Klint Kubiak’s coaching staff with the Las Vegas Raiders is quickly coming together. The team announced that Rob Leonard will be the defensive coordinator, and the next big hire was at offensive coordinator.
Kubiak will be calling offensive plays, but that doesn’t mean his offensive coordinator hire isn’t important. Luckily, he was able to land somebody he’s very familiar with.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have hired Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko as their offensive coordinator.
It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that Janocko is joining Kubiak in Las Vegas. The two have worked together on the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and most recently the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks. He clearly has a lot of trust in Janocko.
Janocko has been coaching at the NFL level since 2012 and played quarterback at the college level.
The longtime quarterbacks coach did excellent work with Sam Darnold in 2025 and is now likely going to be tasked with developing a rookie in 2026. Janocko won’t call plays, but he’ll have a major voice when it comes to gameplanning. He’s an up-and-coming young coach who should be a good asset for the Raiders.
Plus, his familiarity with Kubiak should help the coach with building the kind of culture he wants in Las Vegas.
Raiders Building Young Coaching Staff
Last year, the Raiders decided to go old at coach. They hired Pete Carroll as head coach, who was 73 at the time. Chip Kelly was 61 when the Raiders hired him to be the offensive coordinator. They also retained Patrick Graham as defensive coordinator, who is 47.
The Raiders have gone in a much different direction this offseason. Kubiak is 38, Janocko is 37 and Leonard is 38. The three most important coaches on the team’s staff are all in their 30s.
The Raiders are embracing a youth movement with the franchise, and it’s likely the roster is going to be a lot younger in 2026.
Kubiak Addresses Playcalling
The biggest reason Kubiak garnered head coaching interest was his ability as an offensive coordinator. The Raiders hired him so that he could work some magic on the league’s worst offense from last season.
Kubiak made it clear that he’s calling the plays on offense, but he’s going to rely heavily on his staff.
“I do, but I hope you guys know that I’ve never called a game by myself,” Kubiak said when asked if he plans to call plays for the Raiders during his introductory press conference. “That’s something we do as a coaching staff together. We plan together, we communicate on gameday together. … So I plan to continue to collaborate with our coaches and making everybody a part of the game planning process. You know, whoever sends it in to the QB … I think anybody can do that. It’s how we communicate on gameday that will be very important.”
It’s very valuable to have a head coach who calls plays, but he does need his staff to pick up a lot of slack. Janocko has already worked with Kubiak a lot, so it should be an easy transition.
