WASHINGTON (7News) — Former Washington All-Pro offensive lineman Tre’ Johnson has died.
In a post on Facebook, Johnson’s wife, Irene–a former 7News photojournalist–wrote that Johnson passed ‘suddenly and unexpectedly’ during a short family trip. He was 54.
Irene’s post went on to state, “If you know Tre’, you know what a devoted and loving father he was to his children. Tre’ lived for his kids’ sports activities and supported them through every practice and game until he took his last breath. He shared his passion for Frenchie’s and riding his motorcycle with me and his fellow biking buddies.”
Johnson, a Pro-Bowl selection in 1999, played for the Redskins from 1994 to 2000 and again in 2002. He was drafted by the team in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft.
According to Irene’s post, Johnson pursued a teaching career following his playing days. Her post indicated he worked as a history teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda, Md., before recent health issues forced him to take a leave of absence.
