WASHINGTON — It is with great sadness that the wife of a former Washington offensive guard announced his death. On Sunday, Irene Johnson announced that Tre’ Johnson, 54, passed away while on a family vacation.

Tre’ Johnson was drafted 31st overall by Washington, formerly known as the Redskins, in 1994. He went on to play with the team for eight seasons from 1994 to 2001, followed by one season with the Cleveland Browns.

Johnson earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 1999. Johnson went on to do a lot of football commentary throughout the years with WUSA9’s own Bruce Johnson.

Both Irene and Tre’ Johnson have deep roots in the DMV. Irene Johnson serves with DC Fire and EMS, and Tre’ Johnson became an educator teaching History at Landon School in Bethesda.
